Hello

I am an associate professor in the Department of Anthropology and I teach in both the undergraduate and graduate anthropology and archaeology programs. I teach a variety of courses about biological anthropology, nutrition, osteology, research design and paleopathology. Learn more about what I'm teaching next year here

I feel incredibly lucky to be an anthropologist and to teach anthropology, I think this discipline has the power to change the world and to contribute to solving some of the worlds most pressing challenges. Anthropology provides temporal context, an understanding of human biology, culture, behaviour and interactions over deep time. We also reflect on what makes us human and how things like culture, ecology, social organization affect our behaviour, biology and relationships.

    My teaching philosophy

My favourite class as an undergrad was a first year anthropology class where the professor was totally chaotic, at times ridiculous, but also incredible knowledgeable, excited and fun. I strive to bring elements of this to my teaching and my classroom. I want students to play, to try on new ideas, to get excited by ideas and to feel safe and supported to be vulnerable, silly, playful. It is in these environments where we grow, we disrupt and we learn. Students should leave my classes with new skills and knowledge but more importantly with the tools to interrogate what they know, what they experience and how ideas are generated and presented. My guiding motto is "a mind once stretched never regains it original dimensions"
